Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) is a non-profit membership organization that protects wild lands and waters through a balanced approach of conservation and advocacy, environmental education, and responsible recreation. ADK’s mission is to represent all those who love wild places and to insure that those places are protected and accessible for generations to come. Our members support conservation and outdoor, muscle powered, recreation activities in the Eastern Lake Ontario shoreline, northern portion of Tug Hill, Black River Valley and the western edge of the Adirondack Mountains. The club has something for everyone from active support for conservation to a variety of outdoor activities and social events such as hiking, biking, paddling, cross-country skiing, chapter picnics and dinners.

Our chapter maintains 13 miles of cross-country ski and hiking trails including the beautiful Inman Gulf Nature Trail between Rodman and Barnes Corners, and also maintains the Centennial Trail, located near Brantingham Lake in the Independence River Forest Preserve. We are involved in the Rt. 177 “Adopt-A-Highway” clean-up program , and are partnered with the “Center for Marine Conservation” in the clean- up of Southwicks Beach along Lake Ontario.
Our chapter has promoted, hiked and developed a four-mile section of abandoned NY Central Railroad along the Black River, now listed nationally as a Millennium Community Trail. NYS Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is improving the trail through a grant and plans to finish paving it. Once completed, this non-motorized, multi-use trail/canoeing, kayaking venue will join Watertown and the village of Black River at Poors Island, which has been developed into a picnic site by Niagara Mohawk.

Look us up at http://www.blackriveradk.org/ We publish a quarterly newsletter called The Black River Currents that describes the outings we have planned in the near future. Won't you come join us?
