An event like no other, after a year like no other, we are happy to present to you, the IN PERSON 2021 Stone Wall Snowshoe Race. Guaranteed to be the highlight of the 2021 winter season!

Consistently one of the biggest snowshoe events in the USA, the 10,000 acres of Winona Forest is the perfect venue for this Tug Hill event.  We intend to hold the Stone Wall as an IN PERSON Snowshoe Race.

As an added bonus for 2021, a Snowshoe Marathon will be offered. Enjoy 5 different courses, of varying distances, at your convenience. A perfect winter event, enjoy solo, with a group of friends, or your family - kid pricing is available. (Yes, you can do it as one event on one course - see Q&A below)

We will once again provide loaner snowshoes to those who need them. A huge “Thank You!” goes out to DION SNOWSHOES for their continued support of the Stone Wall.

The January 24, 2021 Stone Wall -
For those trying this snowshoe race for the first time, you will not be disappointed by the great trails, abundant snow, and plenty of like-minded adventurous winter enthusiasts to share the day with, and make memories.

The "Stone Wall" features a variety of trail types, from groomed packed trail, to single track, hills both steep and gentle.  The Tug’s powerful lake effect snow machine provides reliable snow conditions year after year. We have never had to cancel. Choose from a 5K citizen's distance that accommodates all ability levels, and is family friendly. Or choose the relentless 10K, actual distance a bit longer than that.  The 10K course is one you will never forget, and is designed to be a worthy challenge for all fitness levels. Walk, run, do a little of both, it’s your day to enjoy Snowshoe Racing at its finest.

For 2021, we must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Registration will be capped at 50 participants for each distance
  • Bib and Beanie pick up will be outdoors. Please wear a mask and maintain social distancing.
  • Please stay in your car until just before the race begins.
  • All participants will be required to wear face masks at the start area, and into the race course until 6 feet of participant distancing can be maintained.
  • We will not have post race activities. Participants will leave the site upon completion of their race.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available in multiple locations.
  • Only on-line race registration will be accepted.
  • No race day registration.

The Snowshoe Marathon -
Register for the Marathon, and complete the 5 “Marathon Courses” listed between December 25 and March 7.  Maps and detailed turn by turn course descriptions will be available on the Winona Forest Website by Christmas day. To help guide your adventures, courses will be well marked, and color coded by 12/25.
When you complete a course, just email me your Name and Finish Time. You will be listed as a Finisher on Winona’s website on the Snowshoe Page for that course.  Finishers will be listed in alphabetical order, only the top 3 times will be posted. This way, no one needs to feel “rushed” when out enjoying the winter day snowshoeing.

It is my genuine hope that the addition of the Winona Snowshoe Marathon will start a new tradition with you, and your friends and family. What an ideal opportunity to get out and stay fit in the winter months.
If you register for the Marathon, you do not need to also register for the Stone Wall. You will be automatically registered, and a bib and beanie will be waiting for you Jan. 24.

The Stone Wall 5K/10K Race follows a well-marked course that is true to the sport of snowshoe racing. The 5K course is designed so anyone can participate, regardless of your ability levels. The 10K course is a true test of endurance, and should be selected only after at least some level of snowshoe training and/or high fitness level.  Winter conditions are unpredictable!  You may encounter deep snow, bitterly cold temperatures, blizzard-like conditions, logs to jump, limbs to duck, wet conditions, water holes, downed trees, steep up and down hills, snowmobilers, skiers, and wild animals. It could be a bright, blue, clear winter day, or it could be something very different. Be prepared for anything. Regardless of weather, come to enjoy the day with fellow ‘shoers, in a beautiful forest.
