WFRA would like to introduce to you our newest, and quite possibly the most exciting Winona event ever! The CRANKENSTEIN. After decades of fun-filled unofficial “runnings”, (I can’t take credit for thinking up this one) the Crankenstein goes live and official on Saturday October 1 in Winona Forest. Race at CCC Camp, Co Rt 90, Mannsville. REGISTER HERE How does it work? This is a 2 person bike/run team event. You and your teammate will traverse a 6.5 mile marked race course consisting of dirt road and trail. Your team will have 1 bike. That’s right. 1 bike! You both start at the start line - (everyone does). One of you will choose to run first, the other takes off on the bike. At some point, your teammate on the bike (who is well ahead of his/her running partner) will put the bike down, and start running. The runner will catch up to the bike - get on - and go, passing and getting ahead of his partner, continuing to bike, until he/she puts the bike down. The team continues to do this until the finish line. The team time is determined when both cross the finish line.
TIPS: *Be sure the bike fits both teammates. *Use flat pedals - you will be running and bikingDrop the bike in a way that it can be seen. Don't hide it in the bushes. Your teammate may not see it. That would be bad. *Share a helmet. However - I am not the helmet police. *There is probably strategy involved. Consider you and your partners strength and speed as a runner and biker. Your team will have to decide on how far to bike before dropping it. (OR, just be random and let the chips fall….)Hypothetically, you should be faster on the bike than the runner who is running. However, be prepared if this is not the case, and adjust accordingly. *This is supposed to be fun. Don’t take it too seriously. You are running and biking Winona Forest on a beautiful October day. It doesn't get much better than that. *Prizes for fastest teams will be awarded.
FAQ: (Additional Q/A's will be added in the days to come) Q: I'm a really fast runner, and my partner is a really fast biker. Can I just run the whole course while he bikes the whole course?A: No. This defeats the purpose of the event. For the sake of "standardizing" the race - there must be at least 2 exchanges. (Each person must run 2 legs)
