Cycling in Winona State Forest is an absolute dream come true for any skill set rider. Whether you just like to enjoy being on quiet gravel roads with your gravel bike, double track or single track trails with your Mountain bike, there is something for everyone. There's a wide variety of trails that are motorized and non motorized. They're (2) main trail heads that you can start out of. P1 which is the Wart Rd parking area and CCC camp parking area. The most popular spot is the CCC camp parking area. From there you can immediately access the Stone wall and Norway single track trails. The Norway trail is a beautiful 2.5 mile loop with a couple rest areas with a bench next to a flowing creek. It has a nice flow either direction you go. The Stone Wall trail is very flowy and also has some beautiful views. Both these trails are not technical. From the P1 parking area you can get some nice gravel time in or enter Bill's Belly right off of Wart Rd. Bill's Belly is no doubt the best trail in the forest. It's not technical, it's been recently renovated and it's well maintained and fast! You can also access many other trails that branch off of Bill's Belly. Make sure you download a recent map, however they're posts at all intersections with a map that has a "You are here" stamped on it. Bill's Belly also provides some shelter with a pavilion that overlooks a creek. There is a spot to grill some burgers and dogs with a picnic table. Again, best trail in the forest." The quiet of the forest will be a welcome sensation in our increasingly noisy and busy world. Bring the family and friends, spend the day, and experience the beauty and peacefulness of Winona Forest. You will be glad you did! |
